Basketcase Take the New Balance 204L Beyond the Pines

Pine Valley is a serene little spot in California comprising just over 1500 people, all cuddled in the bottom of a geographical bowl whose sides yawn high and wide with its titular trees. It's where Basketcase founder Zach Kinninger grew up, and it's the inspiration for his brand's fresh colab on the .
This is the second time this year the partnership have collaborated on the model – in mid-2025 they also a grey Friends and Family iteration at , which cranked more than a few necks amongst the hubbub. At the time, Basketcase confirmed that another 204L would get a wider release later in the year – and here we are in 'Pine Valley'.
This version of the 204L follows the themes of ritual and routine which defined the PFW release, but brings things right back to the deeply personal. The model is permeated with Kinninger's formative experiences and tastes, unifying early-2000s styling and the graceful lines of 70s running shoes. It's built in a premium rich nubuck with mesh underlays, and features traditional quick-lace hiking hooks. Inside, flannel-patterned insoles are filled with nods to grunge figures renown for wearing their washed denim with with trail-ready sneakers. Black EVA foam hits the midsoles and outsoles, delivering a cushy ride with a powerful aesthetic.
The Basketcase x New Balance 204L 'Pine Valley' pre-launches through a Basketcase pop-up in Pine Valley itself, followed by launches through HENCH (Basketcase's retail space in Costa Mesa) and , with the global release landing on December 19 via New Balance.
