Shake James x adidas Take Back Command With the Adistar Control 5

The Control 5 is officially back – and this time, it’s personal. For the comeback, the have tapped Milwaukee’s own Eric 'Shake' James – the mind behind CLICKS and Black Market – to craft a berry-hued colab that turns the archival runner into a story of strength, community and control.

Drenched in a rich 'Cranberry' red pulled straight from Wisconsin’s state fruit, the release incorporates a tight-knit mesh upper and a densely structured build – details which made the OG vintage model a cult classic. Underfoot, adiPRENE cushioning keeps things responsive, while plush tongue details and a cubed midsole pattern nod to the model’s early-2000s engineering roots.

In true Shake fashion, the release arrives with real world purpose. The original Black Market storefront is being reborn as JAY Academy, the athlete's non-profit project dedicated to mentorship and creative growth. Expect tutoring, DJ lessons, sneaker design labs and the return of the fan-favourite Fades for Grades programme.

To celebrate, adidas Cornerstone Community and Shake are taking over Milwaukee with a IRL Sneaker Fair, hands-on creative workshops and the official unveiling of JAY Academy – capping it off with Take Control of the Mic, a comedy showcase built on good energy and even better storytelling.
