Kenny Scharf x Salehe Bembury Crocs Pollex Clog

continues to be a blank canvas for the designer's closest artist companions. The ‘Art Friends Thumbs Up Good Job’ series is Bembury’s way of spotlighting like-minded creatives and bringing them into his universe, with Kenny Scharf being the latest space traveller.

For the uninformed, Scharf is an American painter and street artist who soared to fame through his contributions to the New York downtown art scene of the 1980s. His graffiti paintings feature zany-looking creatures and pop culture icons in a variety of colourful patterns, and now he leaves his mark on Bembury’s fingerprint-ridged silhouette.

Scharf’s take on the Clog features a variety of his cartoonish ‘Glob’ faces in deep sea-blue tones, atop splashes of greenish yellows and more blues on the foam base. The backstrap has additional whimsical heads waiting to be flipped upside down once these are switched into sports mode. A video announcement for this colab shows two other Scharf-illustrated pairs in the background, which appear to be sampled variations of this partnership.
