kim-a: Transform the Air Force 1 into a $330,000 Gold Grail

Leave it to ComplexCon to host one of the wildest sneaker unveilings of the year. Taiwanese gold brand kim-a: are stepping into the sneaker game with ‘The Gold Sneaker’ – a one-of-one valued at a tear-inducing $330,000.
Inspired by The Way of Sun and Moon, the design reimagines an ancient Eastern myth about the Golden Crow and the Jade Hare – a tale of light and darkness, balance and opposition. The left shoe channels the Crow, built in black with celestial detailing, while the right embodies the Hare in pure white. Together, they mirror yin and yang energy through luxury craftsmanship that borders on alchemy.
kim-a: transformed solid gold into ultra-fine 0.1 mm thread, embroidering it directly through the leather upper – a process so delicate it reportedly pushed the limits of what’s physically possible. The tongue tags, eyelets, backtabs, and ‘Air’ branding are all made from genuine gold, while the outsole gleams with metallic accents at the toe and heel. Even kim-a:'s signature blue hue and Lego-style lace dubrae make an appearance.
If you’re new to kim-a:, the Taipei-based brand has built its name turning goldsmithing into performance art. Their collections blur the line between fine jewellery and wearable design, fusing ancient craftsmanship with modern absurdity. The Air Force 1 is their boldest crossover yet, a move that turns old-world metalwork into new-age hype.
'The Gold Sneaker' will be on display at ComplexCon Las Vegas (October 25-26), with serious collectors able to register interest via kim-a:’s website.
