Everything You Need to Know About TOGA’s ASICS GEL-Cumulus 16

TOGA is the Japanese brand run by Yasuko Furuta, and since 1997 they've been a dominating force in the fashion realm – particularly in footwear. Next up on their 'to conquer' list is sneakers, and they’ve linked up with for a bevy of which are all adorned with their signature metal decorations.
'TOGA has been running a full-scale shoe label for 15 years, which at the time was rare for a collection brand to have,' TOGA founder, Yasuko Furuta told us. 'As we continued to create footwear, we also attempted to develop sneakers ourselves. However, [we] soon came to the realisation that hi-tech shoes were a completely different world. Without a specialised team, the final product did not meet our expectations. That is why for a long time, we had been searching for a partner like ASICS.
'The GEL-Cumulus – which is originally a running shoe known for its high-cushioning functions – was the perfect match for this collaboration, as it allowed us to create footwear with TOGA’s design elements whilst maintaining comfort.'
TOGA sent this latest collaborative release strutting down Week’s catwalks during their Fall/Winter 2025 show, showing off three colourways each laid down in a classic mesh base, and enhanced with either suede or leather overlays
'The overall development process started five years ago, and the production two years ago – it has been a long-awaited launch,' Furuta added. 'Combining TOGA’s signature design elements such as western-inspired details and metal conchos while maintaining ASICS’ high functionality required many tests in the development process. I wanted to avoid TOGA’s elements becoming purely aesthetic. The metal conchos became shoelace holes and the double shoelaces function without having to tie them up.'
We received an early look, with one colourway currently in-hand! For this pair, TOGA have chosen a double-overlapping lace system, and dotted the upper with metal jewels that trickle down the vamp.
The TOGA x ASICS GEL-Cumulus 16 collection launches on October 17 via the usual ASICS channels. There is also set to be a follow-up release in Europe.
